Oak Room Wines
We’ve got some nifty new wines for ya this week!
2013 Gamble Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa (750ml) – $51.99
Inviting aromas of toasted walnut, cedar, black cherry, blackberry, ripe fig and warm notes of nutmeg. A medium to full bodied wine full of robust flavor and balance. Bright fruit flavors of blackberries, damson plum, chocolate ganache and blackcurrant are layered with notes of molasses, date, coffee, cocoa and tobacco. Enjoy now and over the next 5-8 years.
A red with a pretty core of fruit and blueberry undertones. Full and velvety. Savory finish. Drink now or hold.
91 points, James Suckling
Juicy and purple, with notes of eucalyptus when first poured, this gained red-fruited power. It appears to be thick and dense, but air reveals the structure that keeps the flavors fresh and sets the wine up for aging.

2014 Meyer Family Cellars “Spitfire” Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa (750ml) – $49.99
Tasting Notes: “Spitfire is a good old American Cabernet that is polished and elegant. The aromas spring to life with ripe plum and blackberries jumping out of the glass. Once open for a few minutes, we start to see the telltale American Oak vanilla along with hints of caramel and pepper. Two years in oak have softened the palate, making this a very approachable Oakville red wine. As with previous vintages we get hints of cardamom and other savory characters.
Unlike previous vintages, this wine does not seem to need extra bottle aging to settle down. The ’14 seems surprisingly drinkable for such a young cabernet, making it extremely enjoyable at the moment and an appropriate accompaniment to your next steak.
2014 Frank Family Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml) – $52.99
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon has an enticing nose of blackberries, bayleaf and graphite; on the palate the wine is full bodied, and reminiscent of cocoa-dusted dark chocolate trues, cloves and blackberries.
Pure and elegant, with generous, supple plum, cherry and raspberry notes that are supported by fine, ripe tannins that give the flavors traction and length. Drink now through 2028.
91 points, Wine Spectator
Brightly perfumed with violet aromas, this is a soft, round and voluptuously lush red wine. Full-bodied, it shows leather and baked black cherry notes.

2014 Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa (750ml) – $189.99
A ripe, decadent blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc that spent 22 months in 80% new French oak, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from winemaker Landon Donely offers loads of classic dark fruits, truffle, barbecue smoke and earthy aromas and flavors. It’s a big, ripe 2014 that has sweet tannin, a charming, supple texture, and loads of sweet fruit, all of which is very much in the style of the vintage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it should drink nicely for 15-20 years.
94 points, Jeb Dunnuck
Aromas of chocolate, blackberry and currants follow through to a full body, polished and cherry tannins. Very flavorful and poised at the finish. I like the more refined character to this bottling. Keep it up. Drink in 2020.
94 points, James Suckling
Dark crimson in color, our Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon exudes enticing aromas of cassis, boysenberry, lavender, sage, cedar, and tobacco leaf. A tantalizing palate offers a medley of peak-ripe, plums, wild berries, thyme, clove, and vanillin. Creamy fine grain tannins from front to finish. Rich, savory flavors that coat the mouth entirely and continuously. Dense and mouth wateringly juicy.
“A beautiful prototype from the Napa Valley, the firm and well-built 2014 CrossBarn by Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies why this AVA is so stellar for this grape variety. This wine offers plenty of black fruit and savory oak on the palate. Pair with a rare cut of ribeye.”
“This wine is composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley opens with spicy cassis and blueberry tart notions plus underlying bay leaves, cedar, pencil lead and smoked meat notes. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and packed with black berry and spice box flavor layers, it has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and instills plenty of freshness on the finish”

2014 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa (750ml) – $39.99
Deep ruby color. Intense dark fruit aroma of black currant, followed by wet earth, mushroom, and caramelized sugar. Hints of dried herb and the classic California bay that is a signature of Mt. Veeder round out the nose. Earthy flavors that evoke the mountain, along with dark chocolate, black olive, and sweet bay leaf. The palate is long and rich with classic cassis flavors that linger. The soaring structure and acidity ensure its age-ability for years to come.
Aromas of plums and terracotta follow through to a medium to full body, soft and velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Delicious already. Drink now or hold.
92 points, James Suckling
A clean, foursquare cabernet, this shows its future development in the length and juiciness of its fruit tannins. For now, the wine is sitting in its oak, sappy, smoky and dominating with its extract. Built to cellar.
